When I am setting up I turn on both the electric and the propane. When the propane cycles off I then turn it off. I leave the electric on the entire time we are set up. When running from the generator I use propane only. I also leave it on the entire time. One of the first things I do is flip it to electric when I come through the door. I run it on gas and electric when it's shower time. With wifey, myself, plus 2 little ones the hot water recovers quick. I usually am last to go and don't think I've ran out of hot water yet, of course they's probably 10 minutes between all of us taking showers. When were done with showers the gas goes back off. When all the fun is over and were headed home to work next week, I turn the electric hot water off too. No need to waste the LP and when we turn it on the water heats up very quickly anyway. When on electric I sometimes leave it on but if the A/C is running a lot and we are cooking (microwave) I will tend to shut it down just to minimize the amps being drawn. I've tripped the breaker on occasion when too many high draw items are on at once.

When i am camping in the summer time i have to run off from the propane or it will kick the breaker in the camper from pulling to many amps. So i just use the propane all the time during the summer now when i do not need the air conditioner running wide open all the time i will use the electric provided at the camp site.

Yes, I leave our water heater on all the time while we are using the motor home. Ours is an on demand heater and doesn't come on until you start running the hot water faucet.

Yes, we leave it on, but we only use the sink for washing hands/rinsing coffee cup. We use an electric kettle for heating water to do dishes etc since our camper sink is sooooo small! I have to wonder, however, if leaving it on all the time is the reason for needing to replace the rod inside the heater after only one season (I think we had 60 days total last year). This is the first camper we've owned, and just got it last year. We were tent campers/pop up renters when we were stationed in Missouri.
